Dangerous intersection

The Witness - - OPINION - KARIN GILLITT Meadows

I WOULD like to lodge a complaint with the municipality and request a response and action plan from the municipality.

The intersection of Varley and Murray roads has become such a dangerous intersection, causing many serious and even fatal accidents. Although a warning “danger zone” signboard was put up some time back, this has not seemed to have reduced the number of accidents at that very busy intersection.

The issue is that drivers coming out of Varley Road, turning into Murray Road, may misjudge the speed of a driver driving along Murray Road, and drivers speed along Murray Road, so if an accident occurs, the speed at impact is very high. To add to this, the grass on the side of the road in Murray Road is rarely cut by the municipality and there is also a big bush on the side of Murray Road, just next to Varley Road, which causes blind spots for drivers coming out of the Varley Road intersection.

It is strongly advised and requested that the municipality consider putting a speed bump in Murray Road before drivers approach the intersection at Varley Road, at both sides of Murray Road, to slow the traffic right down in both directions of Murray Road, which would reduce the number of accidents caused at that intersection.

This request comes from a very concerned resident who has seen two of her close friends and family crash at the intersection, of which one was a fatality.
