Correcting matters of fact

The Witness - - OPINION - JUDITH LAWRENCE Prestbury

PLEASE may I correct two statements made in different articles in Monday’s Witness.

In the front-page article “City cranks up revamp” your reporter states that the plan to implement 2 CIDs was “… first floated in September …” This gives the impression that it was September last year, but CIDs were first agreed to well over 12 years ago, and a great deal of work was put into the schemes by various businesspeople, especially Harry Shaw and Mr Hoosen, but, as with so many good schemes, they were thwarted by municipal ineptitude.

In the back-page article “United smiling in third place on log” your reporter refers to Maritzburg United as being “… third overall in the modest, unsponsored club’s 14-year history …”.

The Msunduzi ratepayers have been sponsoring Maritzburg United to the tune of millions of rands for years.

Both these facts were given very good coverage by The Witness at the time. The Editor reserves the right to edit all contributions.
