The Holy Bible also talks a lot about can­dles; “… No one, af­ter light­ing a lamp, puts it away in a cel­lar nor un­der a bas­ket, but on the lamp­stand, so that those who en­ter may see the light…” [ Luke 11: 3335]

“You shall charge the sons of Is­rael, that they bring you clear oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn con­tin­u­ally… [ Ex­o­dus 27: 20]

“It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there ap­peared a smok­ing oven and a flaming torch which passed be­tween these pieces…” [ Ge­n­e­sis 15: 17]

To­day there are dif­fer­ent types of can­dles that are in use. Some of them in­clude, but are not limited to the fol­low­ing

Ta­pers, vo­tives, tea- lights, jar can­dles, pil­lars, float­ing can­dles, litur­gi­cal can­dles, out­door can­dles, and many more.

What at­tracts hu­mans most in de­cid­ing to make a choice to buy a can­dle are its scent, color, the shape, the event that it will be used, and of course its price. The need to man­u­fac­ture can­dles is in­formed by var­i­ous fac­tors that in­clude, but are not limited to in­ter alia;

Cul­tural be­liefs: Dif­fer­ent cul­tures prac­tice dif­fer­ent cul­tural prac­tices in a man­ner be­fit­ting them­selves as a com­mu­nity.

The So­cio- Eco­nomic Sta­tus: Gen­er­ally peo­ple of low so­cio- eco­nomic sta­tus use can­dles to bring light at night, while rich so­ci­eties gen­er­ally use can­dles for other rea­sons other than a source of light at night.

Geo­graphic Con­sid­er­a­tions: Dif­fer­ent re­gions have spe­cial pref­er­ences in color, size, shape, scent and the like, and many other con­sid­er­a­tions.

To this ex­tent, if one de­sires to run a can­dle man­u­fac­tur­ing busi­ness one needs to do a thor­ough mar­ket re­search to iden­tify their tar­get mar­ket well in order to de­liver sat­is­fac­to­rily, and prof­itably.
