South African Tourism, the mar­ket­ing wing of the gov­ern­ment's De­part­ment of Tourism, con­tin­ues to per­form an im­por­tant func­tion of keep­ing the coun­try top of mind when it comes to hol­i­day­mak­ers and busi­ness trav­el­ers. The Home Af­fairs De­part­ment has eased the new en­try visa reg­u­la­tions that had such a neg­a­tive im­pact on vis­i­tor num­bers in 2015. The cur­rency ex­change rate has had a pos­i­tive im­pact on tourism num­bers and these are ex­pected to rise even fur­ther. Brexit raises fresh con­cerns for the tourism mar­ket in South Africa, given the large num­ber of Bri­tish tourists who visit the coun­try. Un­cer­tainty over their econ­omy at home and the weak­en­ing of Ster­ling may de­ter many from long haul trips.
