Research by dietician Jane Badham shows that there’s no evidence that links bread with weight gain. “Bread comes in specific dietary ingredients: wheat-free, gluten-free, low GI and high-fibre, so claims that you’ll not lose weight if you indulge in bread aren’t true.
“South African food guidelines recommend eating a variety of foods, including bread. It’s inexpensive and when eaten with nutritious toppings, can be a good source of carbs, protein and fibre,” says Badham. So go on and have a slice!
