O’lu Kids Furniture, an e-commerce store with a showroom in Fourways, north of Joburg.

“After having two kids, I struggled to find suitable furniture for them. The items I wanted weren’t available in my area, so I realised there was an opportunity to start an online furniture shop. Now, prospective clients can search for products, choose what they like and buy at the same time. This offers them the convenience of buying quality kids’ furniture from the comfort of their own homes. Moms all over the world are all about saving time.”

“Our furniture is modular and highly adaptive, so it remains with the families who buy it for many years. That is the difference between us and big furniture stores in the country. We pride ourselves on our furniture having a classic look and feel that will not fade with time or trends.

“O’lu Kids Furniture is almost a year old – we started operating in July 2016 – and we’ve already achieved a lot. Our range now includes cots, compactums, rocking chairs, beds, special linen and accessories for infants and teenagers. We are a one-stop shop for all your children’s furniture requirements. We’re also a homegrown company. Our products are made out of hard wood, which is produced locally, so it’s easy to maintain. There are many other kids’ items that we plan to introduce, so the future looks very bright.”

“Since I am the sole owner of the business, time management and cash flow are my challenges – I wish I had a few more hours in a day! But I’ve learnt that time is a limited commodity. It’s all about being focused and trusting in others instead of doing everything yourself. Budgeting well is a constant learning curve, but I make sure we manage our fixed costs properly, so that we’re never caught off-guard.”
