“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once, but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” - Michelle Obama, Former US First Lady

Urgent Need For Equality

South Africa has made some progress towards gender equality. However, the equal gender representation in the workplace remains a struggle – there are still not women in higher positions. A recent report done by Grant Thornton proves this – only a third of senior positions in South Africa are occupied by women, and 20% of the businesses have no women in senior positions at all. Gender equality is when people are treated the same, regardless of their gender. Women need to be given the same treatment, power and opportunities as men in the workplace. There are still companies who are under-paying women and who don’t give them opportunities to prove themselves. This must change.
