The are decorating their Christmas tree this fortnight, but what’s lurking under it?

nb! thanks to sabc3’s cricket coverage, we won’t unwrap the days’ christmas eve episode until tuesday 13 january 2015.
he horton clan decorating their christmas tree is one of days’ most-loved traditions – it’s been going on since 1971. and this year, victor (john aniston) gets his own ornament! what next? stefano (joseph mascolo)?
on wednesday 10 december, bo and hope (peter reckell and kristian alfonso) share memories while unpacking decorations and find a message from stefano in alice’s ornament. that’s followed by a tree-trimming party in horton town square, complete with memories of tom and alice (macdonald carey and frances reid), as well as the family’s tree decorating at alice’s house, where jen (melissa reeves) and abby (kate mansi) are living.
maggie (suzanne rogers) brings the total number of name ornaments on the tree to 51 as she introduces three new family members – her son daniel (shawn christian), granddaughter melanie (molly burnett) and hubby victor – and they’ll get to join in the tree-trimming fun on thursday 11 december. it wouldn’t be christmas in salem without mystery and drama. happily, this year it’s juicy and we’re wondering why alice kept a special message from stefano and what it has to do with the baby photo of ej. bo and hope can’t resist finding out and phone ej’s (james scott) mom susan banks (now played by brynn thayer) on friday 12 december. jen’s suitors jack (matthew ashford) and daniel are there to hang their ornaments and fight over her. and will (chandler massey) isn’t having a very merry christmas – he’s going crackers on 10 and 11 december because he walked in on sami (alison sweeney) cheating on rafe (galen gering) with ej on friday 28 november and now sami’s biting her nails about when he’ll let that little “present” out the bag. she’s planning a christmas eve vow renewal with rafe, so it will go wrong. we can’t wait! but we have to… until 13 january 2015.
the balls on the horton tree include the original seven dating back to 1971 for alice, tom and their kids mickey (john clarke), bill (edward mallory), addie (patricia huston), marie (marie cheetham) and tommy (john lupton), which are guarded treasures. made by a prop artist, they cost $150 (r1 681) each. “we have never broken one of them,” says melissa reeves. “each is an heirloom piece, incredible history. every time the prop team brings out that box, it triggers so much emotion.” a few were damaged though, by the 1994 la earthquake, including hope’s and melissa’s (lisa trusel).
