Dance moms

TV Plus (South Africa) - - 26 JANUARY -

season 5 of reality show dance moms (2011-current) sees feisty, fearsome dance instructor abby lee miller in hollywood as she opens a second dance studio, in los angeles. the show is leaving the abby lee dance company in pittsburgh behind for now as they focus on her new girls, but we’ll still see favourites like kendall vertes, and maddie and mackenzie ziegler. don’t like it? tough. as abby would say, “save your tears for the pillow.” but what is the 49-year-old dance diva not saying?

abby and dance mom kelly hyland wound up in court last year after a heated argument turned into a physical fight off camera, with abby claiming that kelly tore out clumps of her hair during the brawl, while kelly’s petition claimed that abby tried to bite her. abby was a hair away from losing her dance company before dance moms first aired in july 2011 – she filed for bankruptcy in december 2010 with $400 000 (over r4.5 million) debt. growing up with a mother (her mom maryen lorrain died in feb 2014) who taught dance set abby on the path to founding the abby lee dance company when she was just 14. why not be a dancer, though? abby claims that she hates performing and being on stage. if you think that she’s strict now, abby admits that “as far as teaching goes, i was a lot tougher 20 years ago…” in july 2014, abby faked her engagement to communication specialist michael padula. she later said that “my mother was very ill and she’d just passed away… i just think it was a comfort thing for her to know there was somebody [in my life]”.

there’s no messing around when it comes to abby lee miller and all things dance.
