hostages

Season 1 Tuesdays (From 17 February) SABC3 21:30

Usually hostage situations last a few hours or days at most, but hostages (2013), which aired on m-net at the end of 2013, is putting a new spin on the overdone storyline by subjecting our captives to two weeks of turmoil. but the captors aren’t in it for money or fame. instead, they want the us president dead and they have a complicated plan involving his doctor to make it happen. starring dylan mcdermott as fbi special agent and negotiator duncan carlisle and toni collette as dr ellen sanders, one of the country’s most successful thoracic surgeons, hostages is full of twists and turns.

medical murder

the story kicks off with a clearly troubled duncan orchestrating an intricate hostage situation involving ellen, her husband brian (tate donovan) and their kids morgan (quinn shephard) and jake (mateus ward). and why are they being held hostage? ellen’s got the most stressful job in the us: performing open-heart surgery on president paul kincaid (james naughton). but duncan has other plans for the pres and he’s going to use ellen’s family to get what he wants. in order to free her family, duncan wants ellen to “accidentally” murder the president on the operating table. and by episode 8, we’ll understand why. dylan says that at the start of the show, viewers will “just think that he’s a guy trying to kill the president”. but is duncan the real baddie in this story? “he’s a flawed guy,” explains dylan. “but he is doing something extraordinary and criminal for what he believes to be a really good reason.”
