Marko is going to have his hands full when his mysterious relative Nina arrives in Hillside.
The strange girl wandering through the streets of Hillside, anxiously asking people where she can find Marko Greyling (Francois Lensley), is about to get her man. Nina has an air of desperation about her, says Lou-Mari Burnett, who plays the young character. “Nina is traumatised and living on the streets compounded her condition. Marko is her only hope.” But discovering the truth about her past is even more difficult than finding Marko.
WHO IS SHE?
Nina stumbles into The Hillside Times’s offices on Wednesday 13 May and she asks Aggie (Mimi Mahlasela) where she can find Marko, only to disappear again before Aggie can utter a word. When Marko hears about this girl, he’s baffled, explains Francois. But he finally knows who she is when she knocks on his door on Monday 18 May while he’s on the phone arranging his next date with Anna (Hanli Rolfes) – it’s his cousin’s daughter. But don’t expect a happy family reunion…
Soon all of Hillside is gossiping about Marko’s weird behaviour when he buys women’s clothes at the boutique. “His priority is to look after Nina and protect her from the outside world,” Francois says. “He even cancels a couple of dates with Anna without so much as an explanation.” He battles to explain why he’s avoiding her when Anna confronts him in Stasie Ses on Friday 22 May. “It’s not the right time or place to talk about it, but Anna doesn’t want to accept that and she storms off,” Francois explains. Is this yet another relationship down the drain for Hillside’s eligible bachelor?
Nina finds safety at Marko’s home.
