Thembeka’s disaster-filled day

Thembeka (Masasa Mbangeni) is as slick as she is shady. She’s always risen from the ashes after crashing and burning someone else’s life… but now it’s her turn to burn. “Everything that she’s done has always been calculated down to the very last detail. And what happens at her wedding isn’t planned. This is when people are going to see Thembeka unravel,” says Masasa. Grab your Sunday hat and champagne glasses, fans – it’s time to drink it all in at Thembeka’s trainwreck of a wedding from Tuesday 26 to Thursday 30 May.
A BEAUTIFUL MORNING
Thembeka’s downfall would be no fun if we didn’t love her a little. Her wedding day dawns on Tuesday 26 May with a scene that melts even her wicked heart. Her beloved granny Makhulu (Frances Ndlazilwana) pops in to visit her in her hotel room. “We shot intimate scenes where audiences will get to see Thembeka the daughter, not Thembeka the femme fatale,” explains Masasa. “It’s this beautiful scene where they’re lying in the bed and Gogo tells her what’s expected of a good wife.”
THE NEW MRS NYATHI
Thembeka’s next visitor is her ex partner in crime Vincent (Itumuleng Morobela), who’s brought her the newspapers and breakfast. But as Thembeka’s about to dig in, her bridesmaid Gloria (Marjorie Langa) comes bursting in to stop her. After a tussle, Thembeka snatches back the paper and spots the headline: “The New Mrs Nyathi”. Only it’s not her – it’s her rival Dintle (Mapaseka Koetle)!
Mmadika (Masechaba Mtolo) finally has her revenge and Gloria is agog. “I’m just doing my duty as maid of honour. Deep down, I want to see how she’d react, so I can take it out to everybody else,” smirks Marjorie. Furious Thembeka rushes out to get her groom Quinton (Brighton Ngoma) to fire Mmadika. “She is the one who booked this cover ages ago and she fought with Mmadika about it,” Masasa says. But Quinton just invites her to the wedding. “Quinton is like, ‘Let’s all behave. This is the big day. Let’s forget about grudges.’ He’s a bit of a ’nana (fool),” admits Brighton. And his mom Layla (Natasha Sutherland) is already setting up the next disaster…
The bride-to-be runs into catastrophe when an encounter with an uninvited guest turns vicious on Tuesday 26 May, just before the ceremony. Thembeka cuts a spectacular figure during the confrontation but it’s a good thing that nobody’s around to see her. Panic stricken, she finds a hiding place for the evidence just as the first guests arrive. All they see is that even Thembeka can be in an appropriately bridal flutter on her wedding day. Thembeka knows that it’s just a matter of time until someone stumbles across the truth. On Wednesday 27 May, she comes up with a way to take out the trash before she finds a permanent solution on Thursday 28 May. It’ll be a wedding night that she won’t forget – although her groom’s memory might be patchy.
Thembeka disposes of the evidence…
