Spring is here, so let’s get siz­zling with the fourth sea­son of Ul­ti­mate Braai Master (2012- cur­rent). Judge and host Justin Bonello’s re­turned with chefs Petrus Madut­lela and Ber­tus Bas­son to re­view, cri­tique and crown braai­ing’s best.


C-Soned (Cape Town) Braai master Craig Isaacs (24) is a guest re­la­tions of­fi­cer who en­tered the com­pe­ti­tion with his soc­cer coach brother Carl (29).

On-fire fact: Carl is afraid of camp­ing.


(Rusten­berg) Ig­natius Mosoane (35) is a car sales ex­ec­u­tive by day and braai king by night. He’s joined by en­tre­pre­neur friend Neo Cho­choe (25).

On-fire fact: Ig­natius isn’t a morn­ing per­son and dreads early morn­ing tasks.

Swag­ger Muffins

(Som­er­set West) Braai master Claudia D’Am­bro­sio Grob­ler (41) and her best friend Sacha Buchanan (41) love to en­ter­tain, braai and travel.

On-fire fact: Claudia’s not that con­fi­dent with mak­ing braaibrood­jies.

Sparkle (East Lon­don) Foodie He­lene De Boer (24) is tak­ing the reins as braai master, joined by her body­builder boyfriend Ryan Wat­son (23).

On-fire fact: He­lene will miss cook­ing with fresh veg­gies from her gar­den.

YOLO Road­ies (Joburg) Braai master Rosanela Pierce (27) is a small busi­ness owner who en­tered with ar­chi­tect bestie Shani Fakir (27). On-fire fact: Shani hates cold morn­ings.

Weskus An­nas (the Western Cape) They were elim­i­nated in sea­son 3 but master Piet Marais (30) and buddy John Grundlingh (36) be­lieve that “if at first you don’t suc­ceed, braai, braai again”.

On-fire fact: Piet wor­ries that the com­pe­ti­tion will be tougher in sea­son 4.

Skoot (Strand­fontein) Sven Adams (28) is a chef and so is his team­mate Rohan Mu­denda (28). On-fire fact: Rohan’s freaked out about un­pre­dictable weather con­di­tions.

Shisa Mfethu (Stanger) Eldry Leibrandt (35) is an ar­chi­tec­tural tech­nol­o­gist and his Braai buddy team­mate Louis Pil­lay (31) is a civil engi­neer.

On-fire fact: Eldry ad­mits that he has bad time man­age­ment skills.

Gee Gee’s (Boks­burg) Re­tired best friends Tracy Graham (54) and Chris­tine Ver­maak (61) are look­ing for ad­ven­ture and to show that age is just a num­ber.

On-fire fact: Chris­tine doesn’t know if she can keep up with Tracy.

Em­i­nent (Dur­ban) Braai master Tsepo Mchunu (23) and his friend Ntando Phun­gula (23) want to broaden their ex­pe­ri­ence in the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try.

On-fire fact: Nthando wants to “taste the flavours” as op­posed to just cook­ing the food.

War­riors (Joburg) Culi­nary artist Sibanda Le­sego (28) takes the main role, joined by hos­pi­tal­ity stu­dent Ramoth­ibe Mbali (22).

On-fire fact: Sibanda claims that he has mas­tered the art of carv­ing meat.

Fly­ing Boar (Cape Town) Pri­vate chef Wy­nand Van Rooyen (28) is joined by his part­ner Kirby Auret (25), who’s also a pri­vate chef.

On-fire fact: Kirby doesn’t know how she’ll cope cook­ing with­out her usual elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances.

Dou­ble Trou­ble (Ham­man­skraal) Itume­leng Mputle (38) and his braai buddy Khathatso Pha­lane (35) en­tered the com­pe­ti­tion for some cook­ing ex­pe­ri­ence.

On-fire fact: Itume­leng is con­cerned about the “un­known” chal­lenges.
