What’s meant to be an exciting time for bride-to-be Mokgadi (Pebetsi Matlaila) turns into one of the most stressful days of her life as she faces one mishap after another, right up until she says “I do”. “She feels like she’s cursed,” says Pebetsi.

MISSING IN ACTION

The first blow to the young couple’s wedding is when groom Leeto’s (Eric Macheru) best man and BFF Mangaliso (Bongani Masondo) steps down from his duties on Friday 5 February due to the role he believes Leeto played in his girlfriend Elizabeth’s (Amanda Manku) shooting and paralysis in mid January. “There are a lot of things going on around Leeto at this time, so it doesn’t hit him as hard – until later when the reality sets in that his best friend won’t be part of his wedding,” says Eric.

But it isn’t long before more bad news comes the couple’s way when, on Tuesday 9 February, Mokgadi’s mom Mary (Motshabi Tylelele) reveals that the bride’s wedding gown was stolen at the airport while on its way to her from Germany. “Finances are never an issue for her mom and she gives Mokgadi hope that she’ll get the wedding of her dreams despite this setback,” explains Pebetsi.

INCEST SHOCKER

Soon her husband-to-be Leeto also gives Mokgadi hope when he turns her mood around with a surprise on Wednesday 10 February – tickets to the Bahamas for their honeymoon. “She’s over the moon,” says Pebetsi. “She’s been working out heavily to prepare for the wedding and now she can show off her results! It shows that Leeto is making an effort because, before this, an international holiday was off the table.” But just as Mokgadi starts planning her sunny holiday abroad, someone from the past reveals on Thursday 11 February that Leeto’s dad John (Africa Tsoai) is actually her father!

How’s that even possible? Well, her mom was dating John around the time of her conception. “It comes as a shock to the family,” says Eric. “It’s been hanging in the air for some time now,” says Pebetsi. “No one really knew what the truth was because Mokgadi never knew her father, but the possibility was always there and it all begins to make sense to Mokgadi now why everything is going wrong.” The potential incest drama is soon dispelled and the wedding gets underway on Friday 12 February, but no one’s aware that even more worrying threats are waiting just around the corner…

BANG, BANG!!

When Leeto gets a disturbing phone- call informing him of a bomb in the wedding venue while he awaits his bride, he’s beside himself and tells his dad, who immediately evacuates the venue. Meanwhile, the blushing bride’s in a sombre mood. “Mokgadi is terrified and is about to pull a runaway-bride move,” says Pebetsi. “Her make-up is melting off her face because of the tears when the wedding has to be postponed.” But a few hours later, everyone gathers for the special occasion and the bride finally walks down the aisle as Leeto prepares to marry Mokgadi. But as they’re leaving, hand-in-hand as husband as wife, the worst thing that Mokgadi could’ve imagined happens and she finds her wedding dress splattered with Leeto’s blood as a gunshot goes off. “It’s enough to send any bride to a mental institution,” she says. “How cruel for someone to be gunned down on their wedding day.” But is the new bride about to become an even-newer widow or will her new hubby survive the shooting?

The newlyweds ride off into the sunset, unaware of the impending danger. “According to the script, for the story to work, the car had to be a convertible, so rather than going for a traditional drop top, we opted to go for a vintage car. The car’s name is Emma,” says the show’s publicist Percy Vilakazi.
