What can viewers expect from this new six-episode season? We had to steer away from the “three amigos” [former presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, who left in mid-2015 after Jeremy was fired for punching a producer]. Those guys were the best at what they did – I’ve watched them for years and to try imitate them would be a massive mistake. This season there are going to be more specialities because there are more people in there. Expect comedy, hardcore car reviewing, celebrities and a few tweaks. So what’s the chemistry like between the new cast? Over time we’ll develop chemistry. The team hasn’t filmed together because there hasn’t been a need yet. You were infamously blacklisted from reviewing Ferraris in 2011 and Lamborghinis in 2014; so have you reconciled with them for Top Gear? My relationship with Ferrari is pretty good now and we have a good understanding. I think their manufacturing methods are a bit different but things have changed since then. As for Lamborghini, the boss who didn’t like me left about two months ago, so that’s very good for me. I feel strongly that you need some friction… you need to be objective and if people annoy me or I don’t like things, then I’m going to say it.
