Season 1 E! (*124) 18:00 EJ before his weight loss.

He’s only 23 but EJ Johnson is ready to take on New York in his show EJ NYC (2016-current), a six-episode spin-off from #RichKids Of Beverly Hills (2014current). And while he’s best known as the son of retired basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Earvin Junior isn’t living in his dad’s shadow – he’s making his mark in his own loud-andproud, can’t-miss-me way.

EJ NYC isn’t only about fashion, 1

celebs and star-power – EJ’s using it as a platform to talk about challenges that the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community faces. Explains EJ, “I don’t like saying that I’m the voice for anybody because I don’t like to have that pressure on me, but when I feel passionate about something, I speak on it.”

EJ came out as gay publicly in 2013 2

but he’s had the support of his dad Magic (56) and mom Cookie (57) for years. Magic adds that “Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way. We’re proud of him. Homophobia is still an issue everywhere, but especially in the black community”.

While he didn’t struggle with his 3

sexuality, EJ’s been waging war on his weight for years – and he won it in 2015. Says EJ, “The [gastric bypass] surgery was the best thing that ever happened to me. I never thought that I’d look this good!” He adds that “a strict diet and Pilates” helped him lose 81kg in nine months.

EJ enrolled at New York University 4

in 2013 to study a four-year fashion journalism and media degree.

And while he admits that “I’m 5

not interested in the dating scene right now”, EJ has been spotted getting cosy with Jason Kidd Jr, the son of basketball player Jason Kidd.
