It’s BJ Britt’s 10th year in showbiz, having made his name as Agent Antoine Triplett in Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D (2013-current) and Paul Patterson Jr, the title character’s brother in Being Mary Jane (2013-current). Plus, there’s also his latest role: footballer Darius Hill, UnREAL’s (2015-current) new bachelor.

The 33-year-old started as a model, 1

although he always planned to go into acting. The modelling work paid the bills as he sought out TV gigs until his manager invited him to LA where his chances of scoring a role were higher.

BJ had to take his shirt off during 2

his UnREAL audition. “I play a football player, so I needed to be in shape,” he says. He ended up getting the role but was told by his agent to hit the gym. “I work out, but Darius is a quarterback so he has to look like a quarterback.”

He has worked with Constance 3

Zimmer (Quinn on UnREAL) before on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, so BJ felt welcomed as the newbie on the UnREAL set. “They [Constance and Shiri Appleby, who plays Rachel] literally had their arms around me like, ‘We got you’.”

Darius gets to choose a partner 4

from 26 women on UnREAL’s fictional reality show Everlasting, but in real life BJ is single and considers himself a good catch. And he’s looking for love but not on dating app Tinder. “I hate that. I’m old school. I’ve never been able to swipe left,” he laughs.

But he’s not that great at chatting 5

up women the old-fashioned way. “I feel like I freeze up if I talk to a girl. I don’t know what to say and my hands get sweaty, but for Darius, it’s a walk in the park,” BJ says. “It’s interesting having to approach this character who is completely opposite of me. It’s fun.” NB! See more on p47.
