Dominican-born Dania Ramirez loves playing sweet maid Rosie on dramedy Devious Maids (2013-current), more so because she understands what Rosie has been through. “She is a Mexican woman who comes to the US when her husband dies. She leaves her son behind [in season 1] and it’s breaking her heart to be away from him.” Dania was left to stay with her grandparents when her parents moved to New York in 1980 to find better prospects for their family and she only joined them in 1989.

The 37-year-old was a straight-A 1

student but she was kicked out of home at 16 when she refused to study law as her parents demanded. Instead, she studied communications at Montclaire State University in New Jersey, graduating in 1999.

Her first showbiz job was playing 2

rapper Jay-Z’s girlfriend in his 1998 music video for Street Is Watching. In 2010, she got a stint on comedy series Entourage (2004-2011) as Turtle’s (Jerry Ferrara) girlfriend Alex.

She hit the jackpot in 2013 – not 3

only was Dania cast in Devious Maids, she also got hitched in February to director Bev Land, best known for his comedy film What Are The Odds (2004).

Dania is stepmom to Bev’s son Kai 4

(14) and in December 2013, the couple welcomed fraternal twins John Aether and Gaia Jissel.

So what’s next after acting? Writ5

ing – and she’s already working on it! “I’m writing a script about my life. My goal is to be acknowledged in my career and to keep opening doors,” says Dania.

In 2014, she and Bev acted in and 6

directed horror flick Talbot Country, which was inspired by iconic director Alfred Hitchcock. NB! More on p34.
