Sharpen your knives, because season 8 of MasterChef: The Professionals (2008current) is starting tonight! And with the focus on professional cooks, the standards are pretty high – which is why strict judge and foodie Gregg Wallace is back to deliver critiques and help find the cream of the MasterChef crop…

Fifty-one-year-old Gregg Allan 1

Wallace started cooking in 1989 when he started his own greengrocer company – George Allan’s Greengrocer. At its height in the late ’90s, it had a turnover of £7.5 million (R140 million).

He also opened Wallace & Co res2

taurant in 2010 and Gregg’s Bar & Grill in 2012, but by August 2013, he’d closed both due to financial woes.

Gregg’s known for his sweet tooth 3

and has bragged numerous times on MasterChef that he’s a “pudding expert”. In 2010, he published a cookbook of his favourite desserts, including his favourite – traditional apple crumble.

The unlucky-in-love businessman 4

has been divorced three times and has two kids – Tom (21) and Libby (18) – from his 14-year second marriage to former pastry chef Denise.

Despite his relationship track re5

cord, Gregg’s going for marriage No. 4 when he weds his 30-year-old caterer fiancée Anne-Marie Sterpini later this month. They met in 2014 on Twitter when she asked him if rhubarb went with duck. They’re marrying in Italy and fellow MasterChef judge and best friend John Torode will be Gregg’s best man.

Besides food, Gregg’s also a huge 6

fan of music from ’70s British rock band Electric Light Orchestra.
