Mapitsi struggles to juggle motherhood and her matric year.
Stepmom Gloria and uncle Alfred aren’t helping Mapitsi’s cause. Weekdays SABC1 (*191) 18:30
Mapitsi’s (Mogau Mothlatswi) life changed when she fell pregnant with her son Pitsi (Lethabo Thangoane) in 2013. Her babydaddy Tbose (Cornet Mamabolo) cheated on her in 2015 when he left Turfloop to study in Joburg and Pitsi was sent to live with Mapitsi’s dad Meshack and stepmom Gloria (John Morapama and Boitumelo Mothabela) in Limpopo until the young mom was old enough to care for him. But on Monday 17 October, Gloria arrived unannounced and dumped Pitsi with his mom. Their little reunion wasn’t that happy though – by Tuesday 25 October, Mapitsi’s sister Sonti (Pearl Maimela) wants her and the baby out of the house.
On Friday 28 October, Alfred (Putla Sehlapelo) notices that Mapitsi is taking strain and as her teacher and uncle, he offers to take care of Pitsi. “Mapitsi loves her son but she isn’t coping. She doesn’t have enough experience looking after a child for long periods of time without help,” says Mogau. “She knows that Alfred is her best shot at getting balance in her life, but she’s upset that he made the offer to care for Pitsi in front of Tbose’s parents the Maputlas without consulting her. After weighing up her current position, Mapitsi accepts Alfred’s offer.”
Someone else Alfred didn’t consult is his live-in babymamma Ma’Kunutu (Shoki Sebotsane), who’s already got too many people in their house. Stuck in a corner, Alfred is forced to revoke his offer to Mapitsi on Monday 31 October and it hurts her. “She is devastated and offended when she hears that he can no longer help her and Sonti won’t,” Mogau explains. “Mapitsi’s older sister believes that the best thing for her nephew and sister is for Pitsi to live with his grandparents. She wants her sister Mapitsi to do well in school and Pitsi to get the care of an adult.” But Mapitsi has other ideas…
Sonti has been tough with her younger sister Mapitsi too. Her plan to be a studying mom blows up in Mapitsi’s face on Monday 31 October “She’s missing important matric revision classes because no one can help her take care of Pitsi,” says the actress. “Her plans to study in Stellenbosch will change dramatically if she becomes a full-time mother, so she’ll either have to swallow her pride and ask for help or give up her university dreams.” As for Tbose, he’s oblivious to his babymamma’s drama but he’s also the very last person Mapitsi would ask for help.
