There were a lot of goodbyes in season 11 of action series NCIS (2003-current) in 2015. Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) left her boyfriend Tony Di Nozzo (Michael Weatherly) behind in episode 2 (19 April 2015) and geeky Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) was heartbroken when his girlfriend Delilah Fielding (Margo Harshman) packed her bags for Dubai in episode 20 (23 August 2015). Plus, there was the sad death of Special Agent Gibbs’s (Mark Harmon) father Jackson (Ralph Waite) in episode 24 (20 September 2015). But that was then and season 12 is now…
“Season 12 [it aired in the US in 2014] is all about bringing the team together and sort of keeping the family going,” explains former executive producer Gary Glasberg. Tonight’s episode 1 starts with a bang when Gibbs and McGee are stranded behind enemy lines in Russia and the season’s first new baddie is revealed. Alex Veadov (Sergei Mishnev) is going to spend the season making the NCIS team’s life a misery, but they’ll also have to deal with a terrorist group known as The Calling, who’re recruiting teens online.
Luckily it’s not all war for the crew – love is going to find Chief Forensic Scientist Abby (Pauley Perrette) when she meets cop Burt Moore (Johann Urb) in episode 2 (28 November) and they find a common interest: tattoos. And while Tony isn’t quite over Ziva just yet, he does get his charm mojo back when FBI Specialist Leia Pendergast (Stephanie Jacobsen) crosses his path in episode 4 (12 December).
And what would an action show be without a little tearjerker? Two major characters’ fates will be hanging by a thread in episodes 23 and 24 (April and May 2017) NB! NCIS was renewed for seasons 14 and 15 in February 2016.
