Slutty sister Brooke kisses her new boss… Bill!

Gossipy Pam forces out Ridge and Caroline’s baby news.

TV Plus (South Africa) - - FRONT PAGE -

Caroline (Linsey Godfrey) is battling to get a grip on a twisted, tricky situation: being pregnant with her son-in-law’s Thomas’s (Pierson Fodé) rape baby while agreeing to raise the baby with her hubby Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and keep Thomas in the dark. And Caroline’s morning sickness isn’t helping. But office busybody Pam (Alley Mills) doesn’t give her a second to catch her breath on Thursday 10 November – the moment Pam hears Caroline being ill, she sends her boyfriend Charlie (Dick Christie) to the pharmacy to buy a pregnancy test and they shove it in Caroline’s hands, demanding answers. “I think she [Pam] loves being in the centre of gossip and the centre of the hubbub. I don’t think she is career-minded in the slightest,” admits Alley. So when Ridge walks in, it’s to see his wife standing red-faced in a crowd of people, including a stunned Liam (Scott Clifton), whose noses are now firmly up in their business. As if there weren’t enough people involved in this pregnancy! Unfortunately that

sets the trend for the way Ridge and Caroline are going to keep getting dragged along in this situation…

On Friday 11 October, everyone starts sprouting premature congratulations and Pam tells Ridge, “Who knows? There may just be a little Ridge right inside your wife’s tummy”. Close but no Thomas-shaped cigar, Pammy. Ridge is forced to admit, “We’re really happy. We are pregnant and, uh, we’re kind of trying to keep it a secret for a little while.” Well, that barn door is open and the horse has bolted! And when Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) wanders in later, Pam unwittingly puts her foot in it again and blurts, “Ridge and Caroline are having a baby.” When Brooke is so incredulous that she blurts out, “You’re lying, Pam,” Pam admits, “Caroline is so pregnant. But I don’t think they wanted to spread it around.” At this point, we want to just spank Pam, because if Ridge wanted his ex-wife to know that his new wife is pregnant, it is on him to tell her first. But Pam isn’t the only one flapping her mouth – Liam runs off to tell his girlfriend Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) that her dad Ridge is going to be a father again.

Brooke gives Ridge one of her patented squinty stares and asks, “Whose baby is it, Ridge? It certainly can’t be yours.” And on Monday 14 November, Ridge tries to play off the baby as a one-ina-million shot after having his irreversible vasectomy reversed. On Tuesday 15 November, he warns Brooke that the vasectomy story is none of the public’s business, but there’s no point keeping secrets around this group. On Wednesday 16 November, blabbermouth Pam bakes a special batch of half-pink, halfblue lemon bars and asks Caroline how far along the pregnancy is. And while Caroline’s trying to find a polite way to tell Pam to butt out, Thomas walks in and Pam tells him that he has a little brother or sister on the way. Uh oh!

Like Pam, Thomas wants to know on Thursday 17 November how long Caroline has been pregnant and a furious Caroline realises that he’s asking her if Ridge is really the father and not him. He’s dangerously close to the truth, so on Friday 18 November Caroline slips him a lie wrapped in a truth when she says that it’s not his baby because she had her period after they had sex and that’s all he needs to know. After shutting down Thomas, Caroline tells Ridge to drop his feud with his son before people start asking questions. But as fans will see from the quarterly preview on p28, Ridge has it in for Thomas and there’s no way the lid can stay shut on this pregnancy pressure cooker…

Brooke congratulates Ridge and Caroline but she has her suspicions.

Pam blabs to everyone about the baby before the couple can stop her.

Thomas hints that he might be the dad.
