Going, going… gone?

TV’s not the same without Retro Hour and newsreader

TV Plus (South Africa) - - YOUASK - Amy McIver.

Where has our lovely Amy McIver gone, tvplus? I also miss the Retro Hour on SABC3. Any chance of that coming back? –

JEAN TREVOR-ROBERTS, VIA SMS A tearful Amy MacIver announced that she had been retrenched from her newsreader position at eNCA’s (*403) Cape Town offices during her final day on air on 28 October 2016. The e.tv-offshoot news channel has been cutting staff since early 2015 when a number of international partners started dropping the news service. Her Twitter account has gone silent since then and her last tweet was a retweet from her fan @MoLeeSA1 saying “Amy is leaving, so sad. She even cried on her goodbye speech just after the 1pm news.”

As for Retro Hour, SABC3’s new mandate to present 90% local content has pushed most of the remaining international content into the late evening slot for now. Until there is a change in leadership and direction at the SABC, it’s unlikely that the midday Retro Hour will return to the channel anytime soon.
