While the newlyweds have the space to themselves for now, they won’t be alone for long. “We knew that Gloria would gatecrash and move in with Ndu when the storylines were being written,” reveals Pieter. “So we had to design a space that would accommodate Gloria’s furniture and fit in the rustic theme of the house.” The lounge, dining area and kitchen are slightly mismatched with an oversized couch, a small fridge and tiny table.

The home is set in the rural area of Soweto, Joburg so the exterior had to resemble the setting as much as possible. “The exterior walls were manufactured by a company but the interior materials were sourced by the art department. We didn’t want it to look too formal, so we bought goods at budget furniture stores and kept the place as minimal as possible,” says Pieter, who adds that the brick walls and grassy backdrops were painted by the set design team in just seven days.
