Season 2 M-Net (*101) 21:30 Action
Archie Panjabi’s characters have a thing for boots. As bisexual lawyer Kalinda Sharma, she was suited and regularly booted with leather jackets in drama series The Good Wife (2009-2016) from 2009 until 2014, but there was no hanging them up to dry when she quit the show. She’s now playing Nas Kamal, the rough-and-tumble head of a secret NSA division in the second season of action thriller Blindspot (2015-current), and her producers kitted her out in knee-high boots. “At least this time they’re brown and suede,” jokes the 44-year-old Brit. “And they fit – we tried on 100 pairs!”
Don’t expect to see Archie walking 1
around in boots everyday though – “I’m more of a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl,” she smiles.
She knew from an early age that 2
she wanted to act, saying that “I’d sit in school and think, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing here, because I want to act”. She’s also a trained ballerina.
It took a while for her dreams to 3
come true though and she had to make do with small one-episode roles until 1999, when she got a main role in Pakistan-British themed comedy film East Is East and in 2002 she worked with Keira Knightley in soccer-themed movie Bend It Like Beckham (2002).
She says that she can easily switch 4
between Indian, Scottish and US accents, “But my Irish needs work”.
Archie married Rajesh Nihalani in 5
an arranged marriage ceremony in 1998 and she’s known to storm out of interviews when pushed to talk about it, often telling reporters that “my private life is none of your business”.
She doesn’t mind talking about 6
her charity work though – she’s an advocate and supporter of the End Polio Now campaign.
