Bad-guy Fanie Maserumule’s (Gift Mokhampanyane) return means drama, especially for the Kunutus. Fanie got his young friend Nimza Kunutu (Buhle Maseko) to break the law in May 2015 with a credit card scam and while the family thought that they’d seen the last of Fanie when he fled to Joburg in August, they’re not that lucky. The conman sneaks back into Turfloop on Friday 23 December, hoping to make amends. At least that’s what he wants people to believe…

THE HUNT IS ON

As expected, Fanie’s up to no good – he wants to get his hands on a mystery box that he took from dangerous people and he needs Nimza’s help buying him time while he figures out his next move. Fanie hides in Nimza’s room on Friday 23 December, hoping that no one has spotted him, and Gift explains that “this box is Fanie’s ‘ treasure’. It’s valuable and holds the key to unlocking a new world and living the lifestyle that he’s always dreamt of”. The actor adds that on Monday 26 December, “Fanie buries the box in Alfred’s (Putla Sehlapelo) garden so that no one finds it. But eagle- eyed Alfred immediately Fanie (right) has his hands on his treasure chest and Nimza at his side again. sees that someone’s trespassed and he starts digging on Tuesday 27 December, right where Fanie hid the box.” Alfred demands that Nimza tell him about the box but Nimza claims to know nothing besides it being Fanie’s. Alfred then sends the youngster to mechanic Big Boy (Charles Maja) to open it on Thursday 29 December and Gift explains that “Big Boy and his son Leshole (Thabo Mkhabela) can’t believe what’s inside. Just like Fanie, they think that it’s their way out of an impoverished lifestyle. They want to keep it for themselves”. We know what’s in the box but we’ve been sworn to secrecy… for now.

FANIE’S OLD TRICKS

When Fanie goes to check on his loot later on Thursday on 29 December, he hits the roof and convinces Nimza to go get it back from Big Boy. Gift says that manipulating people “comes easy for Fanie. He has a way with words. He knows exactly what to say and how to say it. But he’s greedy and he’s going to keep it all for himself”. Best he get a hurry up though, because on Friday 30 December more trouble is coming to town – and the bad guys want their possession back. By the end of the episode, guns are drawn and Nimza and his family’s lives are in Fanie’s hands. So what will it be: saving his pal or fleeing with his treasure chest?
