Gabisile Tshabalala’s always on her feet. When she’s not co-presenting comedystyled talkshow Throwback Thursday (2017-current) with DJ Skhumba Hlophe, she’s mom to her one-year-old daughter Sanchia with her hubby, who prefers to stay out of the public eye. The 27-yearold actress, who made her name as cheeky student Pinkie on drama Hola Mpinji! (2010-2013), adds that “I wanted to come back with a bang! And Throwback Thursday (TBT) is a great show to re-launch my TV career!”

Presenting is quite different from acting… It is! And in a word: fun! TBT is my first presenting gig and I was excited to work with Skhumba. We met a couple of years ago and presenting with him is like picking up where we left off: it’s laidback and easy, like having a conversation with my brother. How did you hear about TBT? My manager is comedian David Kau and he talked me into auditioning. I’m really excited because I get to “play” myself. There are no scripts and almost nothing [topic-wise] is off limits. What stands out compared to filming a show? Every episode is great – it might be the live audience [Laughs]. We make fun of everything, from fashion to dating, and the audience makes it fun. Are you busy with any other projects? Besides going to auditions, not too much – my child keeps me busy. But I’d like to go into music though. I still go to acting classes, just to develop and brush-up my skills and get back into soapies, maybe even a Nollywood film or two!
