Blinded by love
Lehasa tricks Sonti into giving up her family’s secret nut recipe.

Sound-minded businesswoman Sonti (Pearl Maimela) is head- over-heels in love with her manipulative partner Lehasa (Cedric Fourie) and he’s got her wrapped around his little finger – she’ll do anything to make him happy. So on Wednesday 29 March, he doesn’t have to go to much trouble to talk her into signing over the rights to him for her flavoured-nut distribution business. Lehasa tells Sonti that she’s signing a contract to grow her company, but not thinking clearly, Sonti doesn’t realise – or read the fine print – what she’s really doing on Monday 3 April.
“Sonti is oblivious to Lehasa’s dodgy actions,” explains Pearl. “She doesn’t read the contract and blindly trusts him because he has all this money that she thinks he will use to build her company.” Excited about the imminent expansion of Sonti M, Sonti ropes in culinary student Katlego (Patrick Seleka) to develop some new flavours to complement the existing line, which includes a Magongwa family recipe that’s been a closely guarded secret all these years and handed down from generation to generation. But Lehasa realises that Kat might ruin his scheme as he isn’t blinded by love like Sonti, so he tells her to drop Kat. “This starts the trouble for Sonti, because if there’s one thing that Kat can’t stand, it’s betrayal,” Pearl explains. “So he carefully plans for a revenge plan that will ruin her.”
FAMILY & THE LAW
The ink of Sonti’s signature hasn’t even dried on Lehasa’s questionable contract when Kat tells Sonti’s meddling sister Mapitsi (Mogau Motlhatswi) about it on Monday 3 April. “Mapitsi is raging!” Pearl says, especially since it comes to light that the secret and very popular Magongwa recipe has now been sold. “Mapitsi can’t believe that Sonti sold their secret.” Mapitsi snubs Sonti and goes straight to tell their dad Meshack Magongwa (John Morapama) and stepmom Gloria (Boitumelo Mothabela) of this betrayal. But creating family drama for Sonti is just part of Kat’s revenge plan – he also slaps her with a lawsuit on Tuesday 4 April. “She promised him that he could share in the profits when Sonti M grows, but since Lehasa now has majority ownership, she no longer has control over the business,” Pearl says. “Sonti realises that she doesn’t have a say, yet she’s being sued and she starts feeling overwhelmed and like her world is crumbling.”
Under pressure, Sonti comes clean to her family on Thursday 6 April and they try to talk her out of the deal with Lehasa, but it’s too late. “They’re upset and worried about her,” Pearl explains. “They want what’s best for Sonti and they know that Lehasa isn’t good for her.” Sonti left her good- guy boyfriend Officer Babeile (Matthews Manamela) in early February to be with Lehasa. “But Lehasa’s been sending her mixed messages – and it’s clear he’s using her to get control of her company,” Pearl adds. On Monday 10 April, Sonti starts seeing the light and that Lehasa isn’t really into her after he lashes out at her for no reason. The next day, on Tuesday 11 April, the cracks open wider and Sonti is left in a tricky position after “Lehasa leaves her humiliated. Her life is in ruins because she’s let her supportive family (and ex-boyfriend) down. There’s no telling what’s going to happen with her,” teases Pearl.
Mapitsi’s furious with her sister. Sonti’s oblivious to Lehasa’s evil plan.
Kat is angered by Sonti’s bad decision.
