Karabo Maseko’s been Mr Popular on hip-hop-themed show Shizlive (2016current) since winning the Craz-e World Live presenter search in 2015 but there’s more to the 21-year-old than just interviewing local rappers. “I’m passionate about what I do and wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m a simple guy from Mpumalanga living my dream,” explains Karabo, who studied business management at the University Of Johannesburg.

Presenting and business management are two very different things… [Laughs] Yes and I love my job, it’s amazing. I get paid to be myself and I always wanted to be on TV. I didn’t think that I would get this far when I entered the competition and it’s nothing like I imagined. What was your first show like on Shizlive? I got so nervous that I forgot my lines… on a live show! It was a mess [Laughs] but I learnt to relax and not overthink about all of the viewers watching. Your highlight so far would be… Being on the show is a highlight. But if I had to choose one, it would be interviewing rapper KO [2016] who’s also from Mpumalanga and one of my favourite local musicians. Any other projects that you’re working on? I sing R&B covers and I post clips on my Instagram account for my 27 400 followers. I’d love to record a cover album with old-school R&B ballads. How’s that for a hip hop presenter [Laughs]? And what do you do in your free time? I’m a fitness freak. I love working out and hit the gym six days a week. I also like hanging out with my sister Tsholo Maseko, who’s also an actress and presenter [she played Rosie on educational drama Intersexions in 2013].
