A study by US group Hub Entertainment Research revealed that there’s a worldwide shift of viewers wanting to choose the content that they consume rather then having pre-set bouquets. Participants created packages from 77 brands, including payTV and free-to-air TV, subscription video-on-demand (like ShowMax) and premium services. Packages on average had 19 channels, with 68% choosing one video-on-demand service at least. But when an appropriate monthly cost was added, over 50% cut their list to nine networks and over 20% dropped their videoon-demand options. “The choose-your-own offering seems like an ideal solution,” says Hub research boss Peter Fondulas. “But with the attached price, they see that pernetwork costs add up and severely limit viewing choices.”
