Like mother, like daughter
Beauty’s got drama when her monster mom Lillian moves in.
There was a shake-up in the Ngwenya household when Beauty’s (Thuli Thabethe) mother Lillian (Linda Sebezo) arrived in town on Friday 21 April seeking shelter – she’s lost her house. For Beauty, it’s not just a visit from her mom; it means that everything is going to change in her home and in her family and that’s something she’s not happy about. But Thuli, who’s a mom in real life, assures fans that the unfolding drama will be anything but dull as daughter and mother collide…
What is Beauty’s relationship like with her mother? There’s no context to Beauty and Lillian’s relationship because when you see the two of them together, you know that they are mother and daughter. They’re loud, crazy, powerhungry and vicious. The only time that Beauty and Lillian don’t agree is when it comes to religion. Lillian hides behind religion and her bible, while Beauty accepts that there are They’re very close. Like when they are together, they get along like a house on fire. But when they fight and argue, they burn like a house on fire [Laughs]. Beauty is very strict with Lillian and she makes it clear that Lillian is living under her roof and under her rules. Lillian is going to have to [try to] adjust to a new way of living and viewers will see how this affects everybody in the house. But there will be drama, right? Oh yes! The major trouble centres around Lillian not accepting Beauty’s husband Judas (Menzi Ngubane). Beauty got married at a very young age, much to Lillian’s disapproval, and for this Lillian is still angry with Judas. Lillian will do anything to see Judas fall, but when it comes to her granddaughter Zama (Linda Mtoba), she’s putty. What was your reaction to a seasoned actress like Linda Sebezo being cast as your onscreen mom? I bumped into her in the make-up room and I was amazed, just blown away. She’s such a strong actress and she’s perfect for the part of this powerful character. We shot three scenes and her comedic timing is on point and she can be really dramatic! So will anyone else from Beauty’s family tag along with Lillian? It depends on the writers and the fan reaction, but there will be mention of Beauty’s father in the storyline somewhere. The Ngwenyas are corrupt and their taxi empire is falling apart… perhaps Beauty’s relatives are able to help them rise again to the top again…
Beauty is ready for anything that her mom can through at her.
Like it or not, Lillian’s got to play by Beauty’s rules.
Beauty’s hubby Judas is still a problem for Lillian after all these years.
