Season 13 M-Net (*101) 19:30 Drama
Like Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), fans of medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy (2005-current) are made of tough stuff. We survive devastating loss every season finale, but while we’re biting our nails over which beloved character will be ripped away tonight, it’s also worth looking back to see five gifts that season 13 has given us…
Episode 1 (Sept 2016) showed what 1
loyalty means to Meredith when she lied to her own sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) moments after promising she wouldn’t, to protect Alex (Justin Chambers) who’s been her friend since day 1.
Mid-season-finale episode 9’ s (Nov) 2
in-episode building collapse echoed Alex’s life crumbling around him brilliantly. Alex prepared to go to prison for two years after he took a plea deal on assault charges to save Jo (Camilla Luddington) from going to court.
Episode 10 (Feb 2017) pulling the 3
doctors out their hospital comfort zone seemed to breathe new life into the performers when Jo, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) treated inmates in prison.
In episode 19 (17 April), Maggie 4
gave us a metaphor for why we mourn ending bad relationships when she gave her foetal patient a moment to adjust after removing her heart tumour, because “she just lost something huge. Her heart needs to learn how to beat without that extra load”. Preach.
Episode 20 (24 April) was a call-back 5
to season 8’s horrifying plane crash finale (2012) with Riggs (Martin Henderson) and Meredith’s flight hitting turbulence while they were trying to join the Mile High Club. Mere’s bravery shone through as she put aside her terror and flashbacks to treat the passengers.
More drama’s around the corner for Dr Meredith and her colleagues.
