Season 2 MTV (*130) 21:15 Lifestyle
Denise Zimba is best known for playing sassy Mary on soapie Generations – The Legacy (2014-current, see p12 – she left in 2015 when she took over as host of celeb gossip show VEntertainment, 2009-current). She’s back on telly as the co-host of comedy clip show Ridiculousness Africa (2016-current) for season 2, alongside local comedian Thomas Gumede and Nigerian presenter Ehiz Okoeguale. And it isn’t just viewers having a good time on the show, says the 28-year-old. “I have so much energy on set. You won’t believe the hilarious clips we get sent!”
This isn’t your first hosting job but it’s a lot less serious than soaps. I know! They called me while I was in Germany to say that I’d got the job and I love branching into new projects. This is very different from acting because I’m me here, not a fictional character with another life. And shooting an episode is different too? It’s way more hectic than working on a soap [Laughs]. We film three episodes in one day. We chat to the studio audience and then do make-up and get ready. It’s shot in a live, ad-lib format so there are no scripts. We just roll with things. You’re not just an actress and presenter… Nope. I’m actually finishing my album and I’m working on growing my brand. I want to focus on my music and expand my potential as a musician. [Denise is a solo techno and RnB artist] Does that leave you with any free time? Not really, but when I get some, I hide out at home with my family [Laughs]. As much as I like to party and have fun, when I do get the time to rest, I cook a mean oxtail and chill at home!
