Ev­ery­one’s favourite para­nor­mal car­toon is play­ing fetch with sci-fi se­ries Su­per­nat­u­ral (2005-cur­rent) in sea­son 13 later this year. An­i­mated dogsleuth Scooby Doo and the Mys­tery Inc gang (1969-cur­rent) will be team­ing up with para­nor­mal-fight­ing he­roes Sam and Dean Winch­ester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ack­les) and it looks like a new sto­ry­line is on the way too, with pro­duc­ers hint­ing that “it’s time to move on” from the an­gels-and-de­mon theme.

An­thol­ogy drama show Amer­i­can Crime Story (2016- cur­rent) is al­ready hyp­ing up sea­son 3, fol­low­ing sea­son 1’s fo­cus on OJ Simp­son’s mur­der trial – sea­son 2 (due in 2018) will fo­cus on Hur­ri­cane Ca­t­rina. Sea­son 3 cen­tres on the mur­der of fash­ion de­signer Gianni Ver­sace in 1997 and the cast in­cludes Édgar Ramírez as Gianni, Pené­lope Cruz as Gianni’s sis­ter Donatella and singer Ricky Martin as Gianni’s part­ner An­to­nio D’Ámico. It’s cur­rently film­ing at Gianni’s ac­tual mur­der-site man­sion in Mi­ami, Florida.

In case you missed it, Sir Roger Moore passed away at the end of May fol­low­ing a battle with can­cer. The award-win­ning 89-yearold was best known as James Bond be­tween 1973 and 1985 but also popped up on a num­ber of TV shows, in­clud­ing The Saint (1962-1969).

Lin­sey Godfrey has an­nounced that she won’t be re­turn­ing to soap Bold & Beau­ti­ful (1987- cur­rent, see p24) as Caroline Spencer, hav­ing taken a break in Oc­to­ber 2016 in the US amid a health scare (we’ll see this sto­ry­line in SA in 2019). The ac­tress posted on so­cial me­dia that “it’s with a heavy heart that I saw Caroline isn’t com­ing back in the near fu­ture. I re­ally en­joyed my time at Bold”, hav­ing posted in Jan­uary 2017 that she was cel­e­brat­ing 10 years can­cer-free.

Sketch com­edy show Satur­day Night Live (1975-cur­rent) might have scored its high­est sea­son­fi­nale rat­ings since 2011, but that doesn’t mean the cast are stay­ing put. Bobby Moynihan and Vanessa Bayer an­nounced the day af­ter sea­son 42 ended that they were quit­ting, while Sasheer Za­mata waited a week be­fore re­veal­ing her exit too.

It’s al­most 30 years since Hugh Grant was on a TV show (play­ing Bruno de Lan­cel in 1989 minis­eries Till We Meet Again), but he’s on the way back. The 56-year- old is play­ing Bri­tish politi­cian Jeremy Thorpe in bi­o­graph­i­cal pe­riod drama A Very English Scan­dal later this year, re­count­ing Thorpe’s trial for mur­der­ing his gay ex-lover in the ’60s. It’s be­ing scripted by Rus­sell T Davies, who re­vived sci-fi se­ries Doc­tor Who in 2005.

Sea­son 12 of re­al­ity se­ries Amer­ica’s Got Tal­ent (2006cur­rent) has just started and new host Tyra Banks is be­ing sued for “bat­tery and emo­tional dis­tress” by a con­tes­tant. She claims that Tyra hu­mil­i­ated her and “phys­i­cally ma­nip­u­lated” her daugh­ter, lead­ing to the mi­nor suf­fer­ing de­pres­sion. The show never got the par­ents’ per­mis­sion to fea­ture footage of their child and they want the en­tire au­di­tion and back­stage footage re­moved from the episode.

Ash­ley Tis­dale (Danni in sit­com Clipped, 2015) doesn’t have a lot of TV work, but she’s still per­form­ing. She posted a video on­line sing­ing her duet What I’ve Been Look­ing For with her High School Mu­si­cal (2006- cur­rent) co-star Lu­cas Grabeel.

Get ready for the time of your life – iconic 1987 flick Dirty Danc­ing has been re­made into a TV movie star­ing De­bra Mess­ing (Grace in Will & Grace, 1998-cur­rent) and Sarah Hy­land (Ha­ley in Modern Fam­ily, 2009-cur­rent).

Scooby-Doo is join­ing Su­per­nat­u­ral.
