Everyone’s favourite paranormal cartoon is playing fetch with sci-fi series Supernatural (2005-current) in season 13 later this year. Animated dogsleuth Scooby Doo and the Mystery Inc gang (1969-current) will be teaming up with paranormal-fighting heroes Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) and it looks like a new storyline is on the way too, with producers hinting that “it’s time to move on” from the angels-and-demon theme.
Anthology drama show American Crime Story (2016- current) is already hyping up season 3, following season 1’s focus on OJ Simpson’s murder trial – season 2 (due in 2018) will focus on Hurricane Catrina. Season 3 centres on the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace in 1997 and the cast includes Édgar Ramírez as Gianni, Penélope Cruz as Gianni’s sister Donatella and singer Ricky Martin as Gianni’s partner Antonio D’Ámico. It’s currently filming at Gianni’s actual murder-site mansion in Miami, Florida.
In case you missed it, Sir Roger Moore passed away at the end of May following a battle with cancer. The award-winning 89-yearold was best known as James Bond between 1973 and 1985 but also popped up on a number of TV shows, including The Saint (1962-1969).
Linsey Godfrey has announced that she won’t be returning to soap Bold & Beautiful (1987- current, see p24) as Caroline Spencer, having taken a break in October 2016 in the US amid a health scare (we’ll see this storyline in SA in 2019). The actress posted on social media that “it’s with a heavy heart that I saw Caroline isn’t coming back in the near future. I really enjoyed my time at Bold”, having posted in January 2017 that she was celebrating 10 years cancer-free.
Sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (1975-current) might have scored its highest seasonfinale ratings since 2011, but that doesn’t mean the cast are staying put. Bobby Moynihan and Vanessa Bayer announced the day after season 42 ended that they were quitting, while Sasheer Zamata waited a week before revealing her exit too.
It’s almost 30 years since Hugh Grant was on a TV show (playing Bruno de Lancel in 1989 miniseries Till We Meet Again), but he’s on the way back. The 56-year- old is playing British politician Jeremy Thorpe in biographical period drama A Very English Scandal later this year, recounting Thorpe’s trial for murdering his gay ex-lover in the ’60s. It’s being scripted by Russell T Davies, who revived sci-fi series Doctor Who in 2005.
Season 12 of reality series America’s Got Talent (2006current) has just started and new host Tyra Banks is being sued for “battery and emotional distress” by a contestant. She claims that Tyra humiliated her and “physically manipulated” her daughter, leading to the minor suffering depression. The show never got the parents’ permission to feature footage of their child and they want the entire audition and backstage footage removed from the episode.
Ashley Tisdale (Danni in sitcom Clipped, 2015) doesn’t have a lot of TV work, but she’s still performing. She posted a video online singing her duet What I’ve Been Looking For with her High School Musical (2006- current) co-star Lucas Grabeel.
Get ready for the time of your life – iconic 1987 flick Dirty Dancing has been remade into a TV movie staring Debra Messing (Grace in Will & Grace, 1998-current) and Sarah Hyland (Haley in Modern Family, 2009-current).
