Season 8 M-Net (*101) 19:30 & 20:30 Action
There’s double delight with NCIS: LA (2009-current) tonight with back-toback episodes! Twice the action, twice the gunplay and twice Detective Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen). And for once in his career, he’s not playing a goofy high school jock, like in 2001 spoof movie Not Another Teen Movie. Deeks is the go-between for the NCIS team and the LA police units and we’ve done a little detective work on him…
The 40-year-old is no relation to Olsen twins Mary Kate and Ashley from Full House (1987-1995). “I sometimes pretend that we’re cousins and that they ride my coat-tails,” says Eric.
That doesn’t mean acting isn’t a family business – his older brother David is Eric’s stuntdouble on NCIS: LA.
He was the top ice hockey star at Bettendorf High School in Iowa, but unlike the other jocks, “I was an intellectual too,” he jokes. Eric learnt to speak Chinese and Japanese and also worked on the school newspaper.
While Eric has played med-school students before, in medical drama ER (1994-2009) he was so convincing as a dying burn victim in a 1999 episode that he was considered by the show for their Emmy Award submissions.
He almost quit acting to be a chef. “I was going to auditions during the day and culinary classes at night. Thanks to this NCIS thing, I only have time for one now,” he laughs.
What he does have time for is his family – Eric married Sarah Wright (Jane in drama series 7th Heaven, 1996-2007) in 2012 and they have son Wyatt Oliver (4) and daughter Esmé Olivia (1).
Eric’s wife Sarah.
