The Zamdelas are Horizon Deep’s First Family Of Crime – Bra Georgie (Darlington Michaels) has stolen, cheated and scammed his way to the top since the soapie started in 1998. But if Georgie’s shebeen boss daughter Nina (Khabonina Qubeka) has her way, they’ll be going clean – she wants to revamp the family image for the sake of her son Obakeng (Anga Makubalo), who returned from a spiritual cleansing in early July after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder from a con job-gone-wrong. But from Thursday 20 July, Georgie makes it clear that he disagrees.

“Nina and Georgie’s relationship is always changing,” explains Khabonina. “There will always be issues and she’ll never understand the business that Georgie is invested in. He wants her to play by his rules but she refuses.” Khabonina adds that her character wants to create “a better life for Obakeng and take him out of the Zamdela world, more so because he is a new dad”. Georgie wants his grandson to make money, to live the grand life that being a thug will give him, but Nina is having none of it and proves that she is her father’s daughter on Thursday 20 July: she pulls a gun on Georgie.

Obakeng walks in on the pair on Friday 21 July and by now Georgie’s got his gun out too. “Nina is angry at her father for turning Obakeng’s life upside down. Nina has tried to rein in her son’s behaviour and has reprimanded Georgie from encouraging Obakeng to commit crime,” says Khabonina. “Nothing’s worked, so for Nina, her gun will help make Georgie listen.” Obakeng stands there helpless as his mother threatens to shoot her father and the situation triggers his trauma again – the exact thing Nina was hoping not to do following Oba’s March 2017 kidnapping-and-torture ordeal.

“Obakeng’s had a hard life,” Khabonina says. “Nina wants him to have an honest life, raising his son with his babymama Kamo (Makgotso M).” Nina has organised his a job at the vegetable market, “But it may be too late,” warns the actress. Georgie is no pushover and he won’t be letting go of his heir and only grandson that easily. That doesn’t mean he’ll shoot his daughter – Georgie knows how to talk his way out a tight spot if he’ll benefit in the end…

Georgie and Nina are gunning for each other. Obakeng is caught in the middle again.
