Trouble in paradise

The Forresters and Spencers are headed for disaster in magnificent Monte Carlo.

Let nobody tell media mogul “Dollar” Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) that you shouldn’t mix business and pleasure. This is the man who had an in- office sex nest built so that he could grab a quickie over lunch. He is so busy planning his wedding to Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) that instead of flying out to Monte Carlo for the annual Spencer Summit, he announces on Wednesday 9 August that he’s sending his sons Liam (Scott Clifton) and Wyatt (Darin Brooks) along with Wyatt’s wife Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) – the woman they’re fighting over – to the Summit by themselves. Get ready for high glamour and high drama!

LOCO ON LOCATION

The Spencers aren’t alone taking a gamble in Monte Carlo. Eric Forrester (John McCook) has chosen the Summit to announce his return as CEO of Forrester Fashions. And his secret mistress Quinn (Rena Sofer) – the woman who kidnapped and raped Liam and kept him prisoner while he had amnesia in May 2017 so that her son Wyatt could seduce Liam’s fiancée Steffy and marry her – won’t be far behind. “The Summit will rock the Spencers and Forresters to their core. And who knows? There may soon be a new portrait hanging above the Forrester fireplace,” hints supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk.

GREEN WITH ENVY

Besides trying to snatch Steffy back from his brother, Liam will be taking advantage of the Summit to campaign for another cause: solar power and efficient energy use. Wyatt tells Steffy on Thursday 10 August, “I’d like to speak to Prince Albert about his foundation, ’cause the guy is really big on the environment and encouraging sustainable development.” And since Bold was in town for 56th Annual Monte Carlo TV Festival, Liam, Wyatt and Steffy really did meet Albert. “The Prince’s palace is amazing. I think I called him ‘dude’. I wasn’t meant to but did,” says Darin.

SNEAKY SPENCERS

The cunning Bold team took advantage of the Festival to create their Spencer Summit, which meant simply placing their pre-prepared Spencer material to make it seem as if the Spencers were in charge of the red- carpet event. When the cast walked the red carpet for the real-life Festival complete with crowds wanting selfies, the crew was shooting footage of the two families rolling up to the Spencer Summit, complete with fake interviews. “That was cool guerrilla film making,” says John McCook.

SEDUCTION PRODUCTION

The Monte Carlo action that will fill screens for seven episodes had to be squeezed into three production days, which ended at 16:00 sharp to allow the cast to prepare for the evenings’ black-tie events. “I loved saying, ‘Wrap by 4pm for cocktails with the Prince at the palace,” jokes Casey. It took the LA team over a month to prepare for the three days but they couldn’t plan for everything. In one scene, Steffy was in a bikini on Larvotto Beach in the rain. Darin and Jacqueline saved the scene by improvising clever dialogue. And the production team even had to teach the extra they cast as the chauffeur how to drive! But production managed to roll with the unexpected a lot easier than Liam and Steffy do when they realise that Quinn is in Monte Carlo…
