No hard feelings
Smanga kicks Tau out of the family business when Tau is linked to Thabi’s murder.
Being tight with the Moroka family is good business – they’ve got connections everywhere. But keeping that perfect image is tough work. On Wednesday 16 August, Smanga (Moopi Mothibeli) discovers that not only is his uncle Tau (Rapulana Seiphemo) linked to his fiancée Thabi’s (Motsoaledi Setumo) death in early August, Tau was cheating with her. “It’s a bitter pill to swallow,” says Moopi. “Smanga is desperate for answers – he read about Tau and Thabi in the papers and he is furious!” Later that day, Smanga and his brother Mazwi (Musa Ngema) kick their uncle out of the family business – they have a reputation to protect and can’t be associated with a lying killer.
Thabi’s murder and the issues with Tau aren’t Smanga’s only issues – his biological daughter Rorisang (Lethokuhle Jiyane) is rushed to the hospital on Friday 18 August. “There’s too much confusion in Smanga’s world. Thabi is dead and Rori’s health leaves him in shock,” says Moopi. Smanga had planned to walk away from the family and start afresh after proposing to Thabi in July but that’s gone now. “He’s forced to put on a front to his family. He wants someone to pay for Thabi’s death and right now, Tau is looking guilty!” says Moopi. “There are question marks about Tau’s involvement and Smanga wants to get to the bottom of it!”
The funeral almost turns into a warzone on Monday 21 August when Tau arrives to pay his respects. “Smanga has put together the perfect funeral but you can cut the tension with a knife. Smanga kick him out. He wants to bury his fiancée in peace and Tau is the last person Smanga wants to see,” explains Moopi. This causes a media buzz but Smanga doesn’t care, says the actor. “He knows Tau is keeping secrets from him and the family about Thabi.”
Mazwi and Smanga have always had a sibling rivalry but they put that aside on Tuesday 29 August. “Smanga has Mazwi’s support in getting rid of Tau. They are going to sell his shares and that will be good for the family,” says Moopi. They need to be careful though – “Tau knows the family secrets. He has nothing to lose if his nephews kick him out of the Moroka clan. He’s holding the trump card and won’t hold back!”
Smanga can’t believe his eyes when Tau arrives at Thabi’s funeral.
