Expresso

Season 7 SABC3 (*193) 06:30 Lifestyle

TV Plus (South Africa) - - 18 AUGUST -

Starting your day with lifestyle show Expresso (2010-current) is like drinking a mug of strong coffee: you’re wired! “No day is the same – the only constant is the wake-up call,” jokes host Katlego Maboe. And today is special: it marks episode 100 of season 7. “There’s an abundance of energy on set,” adds Katlego, whose co-presenters include Ewan Strydom, Leigh-Anne Williams, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, Graeme Richards, Zoe Brown and Bob The French Bulldog. “It’s fun and chaos for the next two-and-a-half hours on air!”

It’s not just the two-and-a-half hours, is it? No, there’s more that goes into an episode [Laughs]. There’s a whirlwind of energy and hyperactivity. We do exciting interviews, weird news and there’s delicious food. And after each episode, we do selfies with our guests – not just one either [Laughs]. You’ve been there from day 1, right? Yip – I had no expectations at all. I was just really excited to work with former presenter Michael Mol. The amount of knowledge I’ve gained from working with him is nothing short of a blessing. And your highlights? Too many! I have travelled the world and made amazing memories, like meeting musicians who inspire me – Michael Bublé and Josh Groban – those are my highlights. What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt? I’m happy with who I am. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s okay. You’ve also taken home a couple of awards for your Expresso work. Do you have a favourite? They all have a special place, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the first SAFTA [in 2015] was my favourite. This is a job that keeps giving and I’m grateful to the public who voted for me and keep pushing me to be better.
