Be­hind the scenes, the orig­i­nal idea for the por­trait was that both women would be dressed in black, stand­ing back to back. But Ali­son and Lau­ren ob­jected. “We were like, ‘Oh no. It has to char­ac­terise ev­ery­thing that’s fab­u­lous about the re­la­tion­ship,” ex­plains Lau­ren. “So we col­lab­o­rated with (Days’ head of wardrobe) Richard Blore and he came up with these won­der­ful out­fits. We found the pho­tos that An­nie Lei­bovitz had done. The pro­duc­ers agreed it would make an in­cred­i­ble state­ment for the sto­ry­line.”
