Gloria and Zinzile’s shout, shove and slap fight goes viral.
Zinzile Ngema (Gcina Nkosi) put her foot down and told the school that she didn’t want her daughter Lindiwe (Nomvelo Makhanya) to be partnered with Gloria Legae’s (Marjorie Langa) naughty son Kgosi (Given Stuurman) for a project. But it looks like she stomped on a social landmine because Gloria goes ballistic when she finds out that Zinzile called Kgosi “a bad influence”. And Gloria publicly confronts Zinzile on Friday 15 September in a mom-fight so spectacular that it becomes an online social media sensation on Monday 18 September.
SNOBS vs SLOBS
Zinzile’s actions confirm everything that Gloria suspects about her “snobbish” neighbours. “She’s tried sticking her nose in their family’s matters and they’ve always closed her out,” says Marjorie. “She’s always said to herself, ‘Who do you think you are? You think you’re high and mighty’.” Criticising Kgosi also touches a raw patch. “Gloria hasn’t been part of his life for so long because of her separation from his dad, so she protects the boy even if it’s not necessary. She thinks that her son is an angel and that he can do wrong.”
But Zinzile has reached her limit. “A lot of people have wanted Gloria to get a slap. It’s so out of character for Zinzile to be the one who does it, but even she gets fed up with Gloria,” laughs Marjorie. And when Gloria accidentally falls during the scuffle, you can bet she will milk it for all it’s worth. “She says that Zinzile pushed her. She gets crutches from I don’t know where and Gloria starts limping. But she’s not even hurt!” The ensuing viral video is gravy to Gloria, but Marjorie herself sympathises with Zinzile’s humiliation. “It’s so difficult even just to be in a public place doing something normal and someone takes photos of it, so I would die! I would shrivel up on that very spot,” she insists.
The families cut ties completely on Wednesday 20 September shortly after Gloria tries to get Zinzile arrested. But Lindiwe and Kgosi are going to plot to “fix” the situation. And as their school teachers know, these two aren’t the sharpest crayons in the box. This fight has only just begun…
