LOVE @ SECOND SWIPE (REALITY)
Season 1 starts on Thursday 25 October on Lifetime (*131) at 20:00
Need to know: Can’t get a date? Everyone swiping left (as in left it, don’t want it) on your online dating profile? Pabi Moloi and her match-makeover team, including life coach Dr Zenia Barnard, stylist Shaldon Kopman, make-up star Nthato Mashishi and hairstylists Candice Wyatt-Minter, Gareth Strydom and Guinevere Miller are about to show the world what they’ve been sleeping on! They’ll revamp the lot, from your dating profile itself, to your look and, most importantly, your head and heart. “We delve into their emotional challenges and what has possibly been holding them back and what they can let go of,” says Zenia. And it’s not filmed on a purpose-built set either – that’s a real salon in Joburg’s Auckland Park. VANITY FAIR (DRAMA)
Season 1 starts on Thursday 1 November on M-Net (*101) at 23:00
Need to know: gold- digging social climber Miss Becky Sharp (Olivia Cooke) is a young woman with a bad reputation in this adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s 1848 novel. Watch out for modern music, an irresistibly energetic, shameless heroine and wonderful eye- candy costumes and sets. MAGNUM PI (ACTION)
Season 1 starts on Wednesday 7 November on M-Net (*101) at 20:00
Need to know: this reboot of Tom Selleck’s 1980-1988 action series is a mustsee as it was directed by Justin Lin (who helmed four of Fast & Furious movies), but Ferrari lovers had better have their tissues handy as several beautiful cars get utterly destroyed in breath-taking action sequences in the first episode alone. Jay Hernandez is the new Thomas Magnum and estate manager Higgins (previously played by John Hillerman) is now played by Perdita Weeks.
Season 2 starts on Sunday 11 November on Nat Geo (*181) at 20:00
Need to know: the previews for this new season had us foaming in rage into our popcorn during FOX’s upfront network sessions – and begging for more. The profit-versusscience, greed-versus-knowledge theme for the sea-son certainly got our attention when a privately funded mining company complete with flashy outfits and all the high tech toys landed at Olympus Town and proceeded to wipe their feet with season 1’s Mars explorers. The focus of private versus public sector space exploration is timely, intriguing and will leave no neutral parties. This is science fiction done right.
Pabi “match-maker” Moloi is helping dating losers win in the romance world.
Miss Becky Sharp is on top of the world.
The frontier of space exploration is a dangerous place to be.
Jay Hernandez is the new Magnum PI.
