We need your help
Thank you to Johann Wilhelm and Rudi van Rooyen for their public-spirited outlook, and for removing so many snares from the area.
The Friends of Beacon Hill committee and other volunteers work tirelessly to conserve this beautiful hill and associated plants and animals. Due to concerted efforts by a small group of nature lovers, Beacon Hill was declared a protected area in 2016. This covers 52ha of the mostly pristine grassland area, part of the less than 3% of the remaining mistbelt grassland of our province.
The rest is extinct.
Friends of Beacon Hill (particularly Dave Pullin and Ross Haynes) have worked to protect the indigenous flora and fauna by removing alien invasive plant species from the open grassland and clearing snares. They work there most Saturdays but don’t have the manpower to cover the areas outside the Beacon Hill Protected area (the forested areas around the landfill site and above Sunfield).
We would love some help to clear snares from here and to coordinate a day when people could come together to help.
