Cough up dosh and nosh with minister

THE REDS are showing they’ve learnt a thing or two from their capitalist brethren and are seeing green.

The SA Communist Party is on a fundraising drive and has planned a decadently expensive party. You could be there if you’re prepared to shell out up to R200 000 for a table hosted by a senior minister.

The SACP has invited the wealthy to a networking session, jazz and dinner, on September 11 at the upmarket restaurant Moyo’s at Spier, near Stellenbosch.

Cheapest tickets are R3 000 a head for dinner and jazz only – no networking.

Those with deep pockets, who want to bend the ears of ministers Blade Nzimande, Pravin Gordhan, Rob Davies, Tina Joemat-Pettersson and Geoff Doidge, will have to cough up R200 000 for a table of 10.

But if the recession has hit your pockets, for just R100 000 you can choose between deputy ministers Yunus Carrim and Jeremy Cronin.

Lesser amounts – R30 000 to R50 000 will get you into the dinner and jazz, but you’ll miss the discussion if you spend only R30 000.

Western Cape SACP secretary Khaya Magaxa refused to say how many takers there had been and to discuss the level of interest.

But according to an invitation sent out by the SACP, discussions will take place with key ministries, followed by dinner and jazz. The party has billed the event as a “unique opportunity” for people in the public and private sectors to interact with SACP ministers”.

“The objective of the event is to provide a platform for these sectors to engage on issues of the economy, critical scarce skills and higher education, and to establish relationships.”

Those shelling out R200 000 can choose which minister four of their 10 guests will have as a dining partner. The other six will sit at other tables. And R100 000 entitles the buyer to have three of their 10 guests at a deputy minister’s table.

If you feel you have to be there but your cash reserves are running a bit low, then R50 000 will secure two of your representatives at the plenary and eight guests sitting with an MP or NEC member.

For those scraping the barrel, R30 000 will only get your 10 people to the dinner.

TOP CUT: For R200 000 you can sit at the same table as Blade Nzimande.
