‘Bomber’ Huntelaar key weapon in AC Milan’s title assault – Leonardo

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - FOOTBALL -

AC MILAN coach Leonardo says he is confident that the club’s new Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will make an immediate impression in the red-and-black shirt.

Huntelaar signed for the team last week for 20-million euros from Real Madrid and joins a strikeforce that features Filippo Inzaghi and Marco Borriello.

“I am very happy. I think he will be the front man, the bomber, the penalty-area man, the front man who can take the ball and hold it up. Plus he is good with his head,” Leonardo told the club’s website.

“He is a player we can build our attack around. He has come and already made an impression. He is a serious player, very professional and someone who works hard.”

Leonardo also said he expects Milan to mount a serious challenge to stop city rivals Inter from winning a fifth consecutive title.

Milan’s last championship was in 2004 and last season the side finished third, 10 points behind Inter.

“I believe that Milan should always be among those who challenge for the title, it is in our DNA. It is something that is normal for us and we must always think this way because it is inside us and something that we want.

“To win the title we have to start well and show throughout the year what we can do. I think that little by little we are constructing a good squad.”– Sapa-AP
