Ro­mario plans come­back for dad

RO­MARIO (pic­tured) has an­nounced he will ful­fill his fa­ther’s dream by play­ing two matches with Rio de Janeiro-based foot­ball club Amer­ica.

The 43-year-old striker, who re­tired of­fi­cially last year af­ter a 23year ca­reer, said wants to hon­our his fa­ther, who cheers for Amer­ica and has al­ways wanted to see Ro­mario wear the club’s jer­sey.

Ro­mario over­sees the foot­ball op­er­a­tions of Amer­ica, which is in the sec­ond divi­sion of Rio de Janeiro’s re­gional cham­pi­onship. He has al­ready been prac­tic­ing with the team.

He hasn’t played an of­fi­cial match since Novem­ber 2007 with Vasco da Gama.

His last goal was in June that year. Ro­mario led Brazil to the 1994 World Cup ti­tle and was voted the world’s best player that year. – Sa­paAP
