Pull up a chair at this quality catering sale

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - AUCTIONS -

THE POPULARITY of Western Cape Auctioneers’ (WCA’s) weekly catering auctions has increased in the past few weeks with large crowds attending the Thursday auctions at the company’s Brackenfell premises.

The increase in attendances has proved that hard work and intelligent choices have helped make the firm a leader in the catering auction industry. The staff enter restaurants, bakeries, butcheries and supermarkets daily and remove the items to be placed on public auction. The turnaround time for articles to be sold is quick, with many buyers intending to refurbish restaurants or open new branches.

“Prices obtained on auction have been welcomed by the sellers, but are still competitive because of the quality of the equipment,” says auctioneer Stef Olivier. More than 350 lots are sold by the WCA auctioneers on a weekly basis. The administration department often has its hands full, having to deal with 100 buyers or more and sometimes 50 sellers every week, but “clients always find the WCA auction experience a pleasant one with helpful and informed staff,” said Olivier. Chief executive Chris Baard has built up a brand in the Western Cape that any auctioneer can be proud of. To be the only specialist catering auctioneers in South Africa has taken a lot of hard work and WCA will soon be thinking of opening branches in the rest of the country. Although most of their business comes from the Western Cape, plenty of auctions are conducted all over South Africa.

Charity auctions still play a big part in the fir m and last week Olivier supported the Curro Private School in Langebaan with its annual wine and sports memorabilia auction. One of the items sold was a rugby boot of Springbok rugby player Francois Steyn, which sold for R13 500.

WCA’s next catering auction will be at 11am on Thursday, September 3. The contents of CJ Steakhouse will be sold off at its premises in Brackenfell.

Items include fridges, tables and chairs, picnic benches and crockery and cutlery.
