Suspect shot after attempted hijacking
A WOULD-BE hijacker was shot in the leg after attacking a security guard who rushed to the aid of a woman who had been dragged out of her car by three men.
The attempted hijacking happened in Twine Road, Plumstead, at 6.40am on Thursday while the woman was reversing out of her garage.
Heinz Smekal, spokesman for Combat Force, a security company operating in Plumstead, said one of their patrol vehicles had spotted the woman on the ground. A suspect attacked one of their security officers, kicking him in the chest.
Smekal said the officer fell back and fired a warning shot into the ground. When the suspect came at him again,he shot him in the leg.
The other two fled, although one was later caught.
Police spokesman Inspector Keith Chandler said the suspect, 22, from Philippi, had been shot in the right thigh but was in a stable condition.
