‘Treat military veterans well or...’

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

NEGLECTING military veterans could lead them to become dangerous criminals or drive them to take up arms against the state.

This chilling warning was made by Deputy Defence and Military Veterans Minister Thabang Makwetla in an interview this week.

Certain veterans, estimated to number 20 000, could receive free houses, subsidised medical care and education and other financial benefits.

But he said: “Those who were in the (former) SADF and TBVC states (homeland armies); they were not working without (pay), they were living with their families and were able to procure houses at the time… they do not qualify for houses”.
