Presenting, the world’s Statistics reveal David Villa is soccer’s most prolific hitman

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - GOOD WEEKEND -

WHO is the best hitman in world soccer today... and more importantly, how is it decided?

Instead of opinion or asking the experts, World Soccer magazine opted to analyse the facts... and let the goals do the talking.

They looked at all goals scored over the past four seasons, as well as this year’s campaign up to the first week in October. That time frame took in a World Cup, European Championship, Copa America and two African Nations Cups.

Goals have been weighted to take into account greater importance for those scored in European and international competition, and the lesser importance attached to goals in domestic cup competitions.

League goals have also been given a weighting, with goals scored in Europe’s leading five leagues – England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France – receiving two points each.

Here are the top 20 strikers.
